I was born in Whakatane, New Zealand, in 1950, and made Australia my home in the late 1970s. I am an award-winning author of four books: The Serpent Rising, a memoir, which won the High Country Indie Book Award 2012; Coming Together, a collection of erotic poems; Sundowner of the Skies, a biography of my father, which was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s History Award 2020 for a book of international signficance; and My Father’s Suitcase, a memoir on sibling estrangement and abuse, released in May 2024.

I am a freelance journalist, with a PhD in Journalism from the University of the Sunshine Coast. My writing has appeared in a range of publications including New Zealand Geographic, The Humanist, The Guardian, The Weekend Australian, The New Zealand Herald Meanjin, The Scottish Banner and The Aviation Historian.
