Steve’s latest historical fiction is KILLING KITCHENER – a novel set in Turkey, Egypt, the Sinai and Scotland a century ago, now available in PAPERBACK and eBOOK on Amazon. He visited the Orkney Islands in 2016 (see photos of Marwick Head, above, & Nebbi Geo, right) in order to research events described in the novel. You’ll find a cheerful review of the novel by the former editor of ‘Living Orkney’ magazine in the photos section, right. KILLING KITCHENER follows A FATAL TIDE, published in 2014, also available on Amazon. His novels were inspired by his interviews with soldiers, sailors and Light Horsemen who survived the terrible battles in the Dardanelles campaign during World War One, interviews published in the documentary ‘Stories from Gallipoli.’ Some years later he accompanied 50 veterans, then old men and now gone, on an emotional return to the Turkish battlefields for the 75th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). In a previous work life, Steve was a journalist for 36 years in print, radio and television in Australia and Britain, a freelance reporter in Latin America, and most recently with the ABC, Australia’s national broadcaster, including as bureau chief in South Asia (New Delhi) and in North America (Washington DC). Steve’s final role at the ABC was as executive producer of ‘The World Today’. He has won a number of journalism prizes, including two Walkley Awards, and has a Master of Arts from Macquarie University. Despite a long career in journalism, Steve Sailah has evolved into a cheerful writer of historical fiction. He lives in Sydney and – when he’s not writing – enjoys sailing, motorcycling, books, beach and bush walks, and a decent coffee, wine or whiskey with friends.
