The Clairvoyant’s Glasses Volume 1: A vision unexpected
by Helen Goltz
When Sophie Carell was eight years old, her eccentric, clairvoyant great aunt, Daphne, predicted Sophie would be one of the greatest clairvoyants of her time. Sophie wanted to be a movie star. Her mother said not to worry about it – Aunt Daphne was daffy.
Every Christmas, Sophie insisted on a new reading, expecting and waiting for it to change, for Aunt ‘Daffy’ to reveal that one day Sophie would have a star on the pavement in Hollywood. But every year, until her death, Daphne predicted the same thing for Sophie – she would have extraordinary psychic powers.
When Sophie is called to the grand dame’s rambling home for the reading of her Will, she is desperately hoping to be left her aunt’s house so she can live in style and spend her day auditioning until her big break. Unfortunately, the only thing ‘Daffy’ leaves Sophie is her pair of reading glasses.
Sophie meets with her two closest friends—Blaine and Lucy—who console her and force her to put the glasses on in a tribute to her aunty. What Sophie sees through the lenses is a vision unexpected that will change the course of her life – it is not her aunty who is clairvoyant but rather a pair of ‘cursed’ glasses handed down through the bloodline for generations. With the glasses on, Sophie can see the futures of everyone around her, good and bad.
In a panic, Sophie takes the glasses off, rushes home and reads the instructions from her aunt. The glasses are to be exclusively serviced by the Lens Men from the
Now, with the passing of her aunt, the senior Mr Lens steps down, and the very powerful and strikingly-handsome Lukas Lens steps up to become Sophie’s protector. Meanwhile, her family’s enemy – the Ravenhood – has also continued to thrive through generations of descendants and may rise to pose a threat to Sophie.
As well as Lukas, Sophie seems to have inherited the moody, tall, dark and handsome, Detective Murdoch Ashcroft, who is keen for Sophie to fill her aunt’s shoes and put her talents to work for him, helping to assist with crime-solving. Not to mention a brash journalist, Daniel Riley, who might just be seeking a romance with his new-found source of information – Sophie.
Sophie begins to read through generations of diary entries with ancestors who met everyone from the Brontë sisters to the victims of the Titanic. But will she move away from her acting dream and step up to fulfil her great aunt’s prediction and become one of the greatest clairvoyants of her time?
