Lynette Noni Bio

Lynette Noni grew up on a farm in outback Australia and moved to the Sunshine Coast when she was seven. She spent most of her childhood lost in daydreams of far-off places and magical worlds, and that imagination eventually had somewhere to go. After studying journalism, academic writing, and human behaviour at university, she turned to fiction.

Her debut novel, Akarnae, the first book in The Medoran Chronicles, was published by Pantera Press in February 2015. The premise was deliberately ambitious: a sixteen-year-old girl walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a parallel fantasy world where she must attend a school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts while searching for a way home. The Medoran Chronicles drew comparisons to Harry Potter meets X-Men and Narnia, and readers responded with sustained enthusiasm across what became a seven-book run, plus We Three Heroes, a book 4.5 that collects three novellas told from the perspectives of supporting characters Jordan, Bear, and D.C. When Akarnae came out, Noni was noted as the youngest author to be represented by Pantera Press.

Her next major project took a sharply different angle. The Whisper duology opens with Subject Six-Eight-Four, known only as ‘Jane Doe’, who has been locked away and experimented on for two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes, without uttering a single word. The duology was acquired in the United States by the editor of The Hunger Games, a signal that the series had crossed from the Australian indie market into serious international attention. Noni won the 2019 ABIA Award for Small Publishers’ Children’s Book of the Year for Whisper, alongside the 2019 Gold Inky Award, which is Australia’s only teen choice book award. The Inky Awards recognise high-quality young adult literature, with the longlist and shortlist selected by young adults and the winners voted on online by teen readers; the Gold Inky goes specifically to an Australian young adult title.

The Prison Healer trilogy marked a genuine step-change in Noni’s international reach. The Prison Healer was published by Hodder and Stoughton on 13 April 2021. Seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan is a survivor who has worked as the healer in the notorious death prison Zalindov for ten years, making herself indispensable. The trilogy comprises The Prison Healer, The Gilded Cage, and The Blood Traitor, and it drew attention from major names in YA fiction. Sarah J. Maas, whose own work with Bloomsbury has made her one of the dominant forces in the genre, called Noni “a marvelous and inventive storyteller, whose books are absolutely impossible to put down.” Noni is a New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author, and she has works in development for film and television.

Wandering Wild, published in 2025, saw Noni turn her hand to contemporary YA romance, and it went on to win the ABIA 2026 Book of the Year for Older Children. The novel follows Zander Rune, a darling of Hollywood who fell from glory and needs to fix his public image fast or lose the role of a lifetime, and Charlie Hart, a fairly ordinary teenage girl who despises everything Zander represents. It is a clear demonstration that Noni’s storytelling instincts reach further than any single genre.

Her most recent book, Shadow Reaper, released in June 2026 and is the first in a new duology. The story follows Viridia Solace, whose parents were killed by the Reaper Priest when she was a child, and who has trained ever since to hunt him down. When the Priest’s second-in-command, Reeve Ashton, is captured, he will only speak to Viridia and offers her the chance to avenge her parents. Shadow Reaper became a New York Times bestseller.

To date, Lynette has won four ABIA Awards as well as the Gold Inky Award, and her books have sold more than one million copies in over 25 countries. She has works in development for film and television.
